Export and use
Use Matelume in 3ds Max
Install the Matelume plugin in 3ds Max 2025 or later and put V-Ray or Corona materials on your objects at their real size.
Matelume Guide. Upcoming features are marked separately.
The Matelume plugin brings your exported materials into 3ds Max as V-Ray or Corona materials, set up at their real size. You need 3ds Max 2025 or later, with V-Ray or Corona.
Install the plugin
- Download the 3ds Max plugin, a .mzp file, from Add-ons & plugins on the Download page on matelume.com.
- In 3ds Max, choose Scripting > Run Script....
- Pick the .mzp file and click Open.
- A message says "Matelume is installed". Click OK, and the Matelume panel opens.
You can also drag the .mzp file into a 3ds Max viewport to install it. If that doesn't install it, use Run Script....
Add the Matelume button
- Choose Customize > Customize User Interface.
- Open the Toolbars tab and set Category to Matelume.
- Drag Matelume onto any toolbar.
Click that button to open the panel any time.
Put a material on your objects
- Keep Matelume open on the same PC.
- Click the Matelume button. The panel lists your exported materials with their pictures. Click Refresh if a new one is missing.
- Click a material.
- Under Make it for:, pick V-Ray or Corona. It starts on your scene's renderer.
- Select your objects and click Apply to selected.
The material goes on at its real size:
- objects that already have UVs keep them, and the plugin measures them;
- objects without UVs get a 1 m box UVW Map;
- with V-Ray, a displacement modifier is added for the real relief, and applying again replaces it. Corona keeps its displacement inside the material.
Every action is one undo step, so Ctrl+Z takes it back.
V-Ray and Corona
Matelume makes a V-Ray material for V-Ray and a Corona material for Corona, never a mix. The plugin sets everything up for you: the DirectX normal map used as it is, with no flip, the Color map in sRGB and the data maps at gamma 1.0.
Setting a material up by hand? The sheet in the export folder, USE_IN_MAX_VRAY.md or USE_IN_MAX_CORONA.md, lists every slot and the displacement numbers.
Quick test objects
Under Add a block:, click Sphere, Cushion or Plane: a 30 cm sphere, a 45 cm cushion, or one tile at its real size, with the material on it.
Send to 3ds Max
- In the panel, click Listen. It stays pressed while it listens, and the panel says "Listening: Send to 3ds Max in the Matelume Studio arrives here".
- In the Studio, after an export, pick a card under Send to 3ds Max: On the selected objects, A sphere, A cushion or A plane.
The material arrives in the panel at once. If Listen was off, Matelume keeps the job for ten minutes: switch Listen on in that time, or send it again. Click Listen again to stop listening.
More buttons
- Add the framed artwork: for a wall art export. It brings in the framed painting with its full material.
- Open an export folder...: brings in a material from a folder Matelume exported, on a new sphere, even when the Matelume app is closed.
Tip: If the list is empty and the panel says "Matelume is not answering", start the Matelume app on this PC and click Refresh.
