Graphics card
When Matelume finds an NVIDIA graphics card, it uses it for the heavy work: enlarging your image and building the maps. Without one, the same work runs on the processor. You get the same material; it just takes longer, most of all at 6K and 8K.
With an AMD or Intel graphics card, the heavy work runs on the processor for now. The Studio's 3D view still uses your graphics card.
To see what Matelume found, open the Export step. The This PC line lists your processor threads, your memory and your graphics card, and says whether the maps are made on the graphics card or on the processor.
Memory
16 GB is the recommendation. In our tests, a 4K fabric build used up to about 6 GB of memory with an NVIDIA card, and a 2K build on the processor alone used up to about 9 GB. If your PC runs short, close other large programs while Matelume builds, or pick a lower quality.
Internet and account
Every copy of Matelume signs in to a Matelume account and checks it while you work. There is no offline mode. You sign in through your web browser with Google, Microsoft or an e-mail code; you never type a password into the app. See Sign in and link your PC.
Your images and maps never leave your PC. Only your account and your linked PCs are checked online.
The Matelume window
Matelume opens in its own window, drawn by the web engine built into Windows (Microsoft Edge WebView2). On a PC without it, the Studio opens in your web browser instead and works the same way.
Your 3D software
- The Blender add-on: Blender 4.2 or later.
- The 3ds Max plugin: 3ds Max 2025 or later, with V-Ray or Corona.
- Anything else: any renderer that reads standard PBR maps. See Other programs and renderers.
Note: So far Matelume has been tested mostly on PCs with large NVIDIA graphics cards. Smaller graphics cards have not been tested yet.
