Frequently asked questions

Short answers about AI, your images, working offline, Mac, supported renderers, commercial use and image rights.

Matelume Guide. Upcoming features are marked separately.

Does AI make the material?

No. AI only enlarges your image, when it's smaller than the quality you pick, and helps read its shapes, such as which parts of a design belong together. It doesn't invent a new image of your material. The maps are built from your own image, on your PC, with the choices you make at every step: the scale, the raised parts, the stitching, the finish.

Enlarging estimates detail; it can't recover detail the image doesn't have. The Quality step shows your original beside the enlarged picture, so you can judge for yourself.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Your images, your projects and your maps stay on your PC. Matelume goes online only for your account: to sign in, to check your plan and to link your PCs. The website has no image upload.

Can I work offline?

No. Matelume needs an internet connection the whole time you work, on the trial and on every plan. If the connection drops during a build, the build keeps going for a short while. If the connection doesn't come back, the build stops and your work is saved.

Is there a Mac version?

No. Matelume runs on Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit.

Which renderers does it work with?

Any renderer that reads standard PBR maps. The Studio has ready choices for Blender (Cycles and EEVEE), 3ds Max + V-Ray, 3ds Max + Corona, Cinema 4D (Redshift) and Unreal Engine 5, plus Other software, a standard set for SketchUp, Enscape, D5 Render, Twinmotion, Lumion, Unity and the rest.

Blender and 3ds Max have Matelume add-ons and are the setups we've tested. Elsewhere, you use the maps with the how-to sheet and the .json; see Other programs and renderers.

Can I sell my renders or use the maps commercially?

Yes. With an active plan, you can use Matelume for personal or commercial design work, and the materials you export stay yours to keep, subject to the rights in your source image. Trial exports carry a watermark; don't try to remove it. The Software licence has the full terms.

Which images can I use?

Your own designs, licensed flat images, public-domain work or artwork used with permission. Matelume's licence doesn't give you rights to someone else's fabric design, artwork or photograph. This matters most for commercial work.

Can I use Matelume on two PCs?

Yes: two linked PCs, with Matelume running on one at a time. See Your PCs.

What sizes can I export?

2K, 4K, 6K or 8K on the long side, picked in the Quality step. The other side follows your image. A trial exports at up to 2K.

Does it work without an NVIDIA graphics card?

Yes. The heavy work runs on your processor instead, which takes longer. See System requirements.

Can I come back to a material later?

Your choices stay in the Studio while it's open. Export before you close Matelume: the exported folder is what you keep, reuse and take to any scene.

Does Matelume update itself?

No. When a new version is out, download it from the Download page and install it over your copy. You stay signed in. See What's new.
